The Workhouse Arts Center Workhouse Arts Center is the home of the Aim Gallery, and it used to be a reformation center. The 511.3 acres of land housed non-violent offenders serving short sentences. By 2002, some 2000-plus acres were sold to Fairfax County, Virginia. After that, a group of community leaders transformed the once bleak facility into a cultural arts center. It then opened its doors to the public in September 2008. Starting January 25, 2020, the arts center will feature the Lucy Burns Museum. It will showcase the history of the Lorton Correctional facilities. The prison operated from 1910 and closed its doors in 2001. The Workhouse Arts Center is home to art forms that create works that are both visual and performance in nature.
