The multi-use recreational trail starts at George Washington’s Estate specifically in the south area of Crystal City. It then follows the shoreline of the Potomac River to George Washington's Estate located at Mount Vernon. Everything is a flat and easy ride with occasional vehicle traffic
as you pass Old Town Alexandria. Some path users take the Union Street route while others take the North Royal street which is most consider as the faster route. Overall, Mount Vernon Trail connects with other famous trails which include Potomac Heritage Trail and Rock Creek Trail.

Theodore Roosevelt Island - A good place to recharge and reconnect with Mother Nature in the state of Virginia. It’s located in the middle of the Potomac and its an oasis of tranquility. Unlike most memorials, this island is a living memorial Theodore Roosevelt. The 26th president was known as an outdoor enthusiast.
Arlington National Cemetery - The cemetery is home to more than 400,000 thousand American heroes. On this sacred field of grass, 27 to 30 funeral services are conducted each weekday. This beautiful landscape has served as the final resting place of service members and veterans.
Old Town Alexandria - The town is just a few miles from Washington D.C. and south of Ronald Reagan National airport. It’s a blend of history and charm with an easy commute just everywhere. Cobblestone streets, antique shops, and galleries flourished in the historic district.
Fort Hunt National Park - Located near the shores of the Potomac River, the park is known as a favorite spot for picnics and its free concerts which are usually held during the vacation months. The park has undergone several transformations. It was the primary defensive fort during the Spanish American War.

Besides a private vehicle, Mount Vernon Trail can be reached by public transportation. You can access the Metrorail which has several stations that are of close proximity. The following are the stations available for you to access: Rosslyn, Arlington Cemetery, Reagan National Airport, and Braddock Road.
